Mattel Recalls Polly Pocket Toys To Prevent Any More Personal Injury Accidents

Three children recently suffered intestinal perforations after swallowing multiple magnetic pieces from Polly Pocket toys.  Mattel recalled 4.4 million Polly Pocket sets sold between May 2003 and September 2006 which have tiny magnets that can come loose and cause a fatal personal injury to a child if more than one is swallowed.

Back in March of this year, a similar recall was made by Mega Brands Inc after one child died and three others were seriously injured when they swallowed pieces from magnetic building sets.  Parents and caregivers can find out more information these and other recalls at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.  The site also provides valuable tips on ways to avoid toy-related personal injury accidents.

Darn right these tiny cute little Polly Pocket dolls (and their accessories) can be dangerous! So far there are reports of one boy and three girls who had to be hospitalized to have magnets that came out of the toys...removed from their intestines...where they can twist, perforate and cause infection and even death if not caught in time. The models currently on the shelves are reportedly safer, i.e. magnets less likely to be dislodged, BUT my personal advice is...if you have any young children in your house, say under 6, or kids who mouth toys, just don't buy the magnetic version of Polly Pocket. Life is too beautiful to risk your precious little one's life over A TOY.
